Smilin'
Through audience feedback:
A thought provoking and engaging play with well
developed
characters. I felt involved from the very beginning.
It is a play that I
would return to see and recommend to others.

I
really enjoyed the show. It was lovely to see
something humourous, wacky and touching all at
the
same time.
Strong production values, and highly camp.

We
thoroughly enjoyed "Smilin Through"
well written and well
performed. The religous and gay aspects in act
2 were clearly presented to shock, but on reflection
the points made had certain merit. They made us
think and that is exactly what theatre should
be about.

Billy has an amazing ability to tap into the threads
of humanity
that bind each and everyone of us together!. Through
characterisation, he presents the issues that
the majority of people wish to shy away from:
violence, sexuality and death in favour of a more
comfortably numb
existence, in a crude yet realistic light and
incorporates tools such as
humour, song, visuals and working class cliches
and dialogue to deliver a play with a strong political
message about what it means to be gay and coming
out for the first time and the resulting hostility
which Kyle faces from those he loves and the wider
society. However in 'Smilin' Through' Kyle's 'confession'
isn't in vain as his mother -the hypocritical
Peggy has to, in turn admit her own faults and
prejudices and is on the
receiving end of a sharp lesson on acceptance
of diversity and to
appreciate with empathy her son Kyle's choice.

I
enjoyed this play immensley. Very fast, witty
and extremely
funny. The characters were brilliantly portrayed,
especially Kyle and
Peggy, and were a joy to watch. 5 stars to Mr.
Cowan and the crew.

entertaining play all round.
